The venerable generalist (1995): MPM flexibility (prefork/event), per-directory dynamic config (.htaccess — still unmatched for shared hosting), a module for everything. The incumbent whose process-per-connection model nginx displaced for high-concurrency workloads, yet often still the right tool for legacy apps and per-user config delegation.
